On: Shedding

untitled, originally uploaded by lettuce_move.

I met a Japanese photographer named Riichi Yamaguchi and he is a very nice fellow. I was very impressed by his work prior to this shoot (Google: Riichi Yamaguchi) and was even more impressed by his creative process. There was one other dancer in the group aside from myself who must have gotten Riichi's information from the DNA posting. The others came from various backgrounds and it seems they all decided to do it on a whim. I contacted Riichi with the hope of getting more involved in artistic modeling. I would like to be a muse to someone.

I wasn't sure what to expect, though I knew (and was very excited to know) that he required nudity for this shoot. Since baring my brown ass to thousands of people in AGORA II inside McCarren Pool (Greenpoint, Brooklyn) last fall, I've been itching to take it all off in public again as often as possible. I'd say that I come pretty close to peace sitting half lotus in the grassy yard behind my mothers house -- my inner exhibitionist welcoming the outdoors, enjoying the breeze and the sun and the space. I admit to finding the attention or the idea of being seen to be alluring, but I can also say I see beauty in the human body... no matter the complexion, shape, age, etc. It's something to be nourished and celebrated and loved and shown off. It's freeing to be naked and to be naked in front of people in a nonsexual context... no labels, no logos, no accessories, no pretension, just flesh and the senses and so much space... and union.
