I teamed up with Day this weekend for a dual project. I told her that I was recently signed to UGLY and that I needed moldel-esque photos that did the job of showing of the shop's Summer Collection and happened to be portfolio gold. You can find the rest of the shoot here. This is one of my favorites. Of course, I'd need to get it retouched, but I'm happy with this. And, I'm actually, seriously considering adding this to my own wardrobe. It's a really versatile little number. Pockets and all. Really cute. Click here to shop.

Blogroll: Ill Doctrine
I stumbled upon Jay Smooth's video commenting on the actuality of Alicia Keys' "craziness" on cruck and disorderly and I've been a fan ever since. I especially enjoyed his post on the "little hater". He's so charming and inspiring and he articulates his ideas beautifully.
I battle my little hater regularly. Mine usually tells me that whatever I'm doing isn't worth the time or energy I'm putting into it. It's always questioning me. What do I do to shut that little bitch up? I acknowledge her, ponder her words then I find my way back to plan A. I'm learning that my first mind, my instincts can be trusted and I just need to let it do their job.

On: oversharing & my purpose for feeding the feeds
I've attempted, in the past, to say clearly why I blog. And since reading that senselessly long, really dull biographic article by Gawker's Emily Gould for Times Magazine, I spent time seriously considering my own purpose for posting.
I've had this blog for a little over a year now and I can remember first posting because it seemed like the thing to do. In the beginning, I was so naive in my posting. I wasn't self-censored for the most part and I treated my blog like the physical paper journals that I kept under my pillow. It was cool, but it was secret and practical. And happened to be way more public. I'm still pretty open about myself in my posts; much more than my public self is. When reading older posts, I find them to be pretty embarrassing, but no more so than when looking back at high school photos or reading secret notes passed between besties. This blog has helped me see plainly my personal growth. It's a good record of my past achievements and mistakes. I can read them and put the present into perspective.
I have another blog. That one is about my butt. Well my gut really and the cleaning of it. I started it to help me support my Master Cleanse cycles so that I could record the process and stay on track. And I thought if anyone were interested in finding out what a detox is really like, the blog would try to cover it in it's least glamorized form. I chose to be super open and graphic, which I'm still okay with because though I may come off as a prude in public, I'm not shy about poo. At all. There are a handful of posts, those posted between cycles, that were health-related and tended to be, maybe, uncomfortably personal for the reader. But again, I figured if anyone had questions I had answers (or at least a story) for, I figured it was worth it.
Back to ol' girl Emily's article and why I still share too much info about myself: I've never had the troubles of a popular girl. I have a tiny circle of friends and I'm very tight with my family. I'm shy at first and reserved later. And, as it were, I enjoy the idea of someone I know possibly stumbling across my posts and making some judgment or another. I understand that by posting links to my network sites and the shop and by posting my photos alongside very personal posts, I'm inviting any Joe to see me naked (sometimes literally). Now, I'm pretty clear on the fact that my life is no more interesting than the next person's. Everyone has relationship troubles. Everyone's been embarrassed or really fucking happy. Everyone has highs, and lows, and mostly in-betweens. Some can present their essentially boring lives more compellingly than others. Some blog about ugly bugs or the Bible. Some do this professionally. Me? I just want to expose my secret self a little bit. Be someone who can tell complete strangers what I'm listening to or what my dancing looks like or what I think about a boy I'm seeing. Just to put it out there so I and everyone can see. I guess that's very narcissistic of me. But if being so has given me an excuse to write, reflect and grow, then I'm okay with that.

Funtime with gadgets & poses
My coworker Reese, a photography enthusiast, recently purchased a fancy ass lens and wanted to try it out. I agreed to be his subject on the condition that I get a copy of the images. Here they are.

La La La Human Steps: Amelia
My sister put me on to this a few months ago and I'm so in love with it. It's absolutely ingenious. The movement, the costumes, the set, the lighting (my God the lighting!), the angles and editing... all of it is perfect. I've found the entire movie in 10 parts on youtube. This is my favorite section.
La La La Human Steps is an incredible contemporary dance company based in Quebec, Canada. See their website to learn more http://www.lalalahumansteps.com/

Louie Ramirez: Ali Baba

A homie of mine from LA answered my call for new music. The only criteria I gave was that whatever he had for me, it must make my bottom move in circular motion. He's a musician with incredible depth of knowledge in music, so I was not surprised when he sent me such an excellent record. Released under an alias, Ali Baba, in 1971, Ramirez's legendary charisma is ever present on this album and each song is definitely a rump swinger.

Bayou, online comic book
Came across this beautiful comic. Shouts to Ladyfresh at Creative Slump No More for the link.
And now I share it with you.
South of the Mason-Dixon lurks a strange world of gods and monsters born of years of slavery, civil war, innocent blood, hate and strife. The daughter of a poor black sharecropper, Lee Wagstaff, joins a blues-singing swamp monster name Bayou on a southern odyssey through a mythic combination of depression era Mississippi, African mythology and American folklore in order to rescue her childhood friend and save her father's life.

Weekend in Boston

I spent the weekend in Boston with family. My twin cousin graduated from college. I saw family I hadn't seen in too long and family I could've gone without seeing for a few more years. I had way too much to eat and I hardly slept a wink, but it was a joy to be there.
Boston is a cool little city. It's got nothing on New York, of course, but it's cool in its own ways. I want to take a longer trip up to explore. While I was down there, this fly bella named Martini of beyondbostonchic.blogspot.com stopped me on the subway and complimented me on my ensemble. She took my photo and posted me to her blog. I was MAD gassed the entire trip back to New York! Here's a link to the post. I'm wearing my adorable taupe and chocolate striped silk buttoned down halter dress with matching vegan peep toe espadrilles and a cute green knit cropped trapeze cardigan. I looked adorable than mug... if I do say so.

"Ebb"
I called Alex up to take pictures of me again. This time around, the chemistry was backed by recognition, comfort and a general good time. We had Little Dragon and Basement Jaxx playing in the background. The studio was much smaller, but I feel like my movement at this shoot was much bigger and more daring. I love these even more than the last set.
Enjoy.
